12+ Months Out: Get Inspired

Start gathering inspo! Scroll through Pinterest, browse Instagram, and save photos of styles, necklines, and details you’re drawn to. This is also the perfect time to research bridal boutiques and book your appointment.

Pro tip:  Remember to keep an open mind when you do start to shop. Sometimes what you like on YOU is different than your inspo.

10–12 Months Out: Start Shopping

This is the sweet spot. Most gowns take 5-7 months to arrive once ordered (yes, really), and you’ll also need time for alterations. Plus a little extra in case of any delays. Starting early gives you more choices, less pressure, and space to truly enjoy the process. Brides shopping with us at New Ivory often say it’s easy and comfortable than they expected—We think that is how it should always be.

Pro Tip: Popular stores and weekend slots book up quickly—schedule early to get your preferred date and time.

9 Months Out: The Latest YES to a Special Order dress

Once you’ve found “the one,” don’t wait to order! Delays can happen, especially during peak wedding seasons. If you fall in love with your dress, trust your gut and place the order so your timeline stays on track.

2–3 Months Out: Begin Alterations

When your gown arrives, it’s time to schedule your fittings. Most brides need 2–4 alteration appointments to get that perfect fit. Whether it's adjusting the hem, tweaking the bodice, or adding sleeves or straps—this stage is key to making your gown feel like it was made just for you.

2–4 Weeks Out: Final Fitting & Try-On

Now’s the time to bring your accessories, shoes, and undergarments to a final try-on. This is your full dress rehearsal moment—and your chance to make sure everything is picture-perfect.

Bonus Tip: Shopping on a Tighter Timeline?

If your wedding is sooner than expected, don’t panic. Ask us about off-the-rack options or rush delivery timelines. We’ve helped plenty of last-minute brides find the dress of their dreams—and we’ve got you.

Final Thoughts

Shopping early isn’t just about logistics—it’s about creating a joyful, stress-free experience where you can focus on feeling beautiful, supported, and celebrated. You only do this once, and we’re here to help make it unforgettable.

We’d love to meet you.

XO, Kristen
